Cory Steven Piper has been immersed in the Texas music scene since 1988 when he started his first band. To hear him tell it, however, the story started many years prior when in 1975 he had the privilege of seeing the iconic Waylon Jennings perform at an outdoor venue in a small Texan town. From that defining moment, he has been enthralled, for better or worse, by the Texas music scene and the people that make that special genre the last original music on the planet.
In the 25+ years that he has been actively involved in the music profession, Cory's musical styling has grown out of the long traditions of those few legendary classic individuals who were so influential, not only to the classic country genre, but also to the design, birth and evolution of modern day Rock-n-Roll, which contributes to his rougher, harder edge.
In his long career, Cory has played with numerous bands in Texas and abroad, from Canada to Mexico, opening for performers of note from Roger Creager and Kevin Fowler, to Ray Wylie Hubbard and Robert Earl Keen.
This, in turn has led to the unique Country-Rock atmosphere that he brings to every venue. No matter how much time he spends traveling, he always finds his way back to Texas because it is the last true music left in an otherwise terminally commercialized and degraded art.
Cory Steven Piper is first and foremost a songwriter with performing as a close second in his mind. He has, in his career, been recognized for writing eight songs that have achieved a place on the Texas music charts and two others on the Nashville charts.
30 years of playing professionally has certainly had an affect on Cory's career. Now, his preferred venues are a bit more personal, as well as being, somewhat more subdued, (quieter) in ambiance, and mood. Entertainment oriented establishments, such as coffee houses, micro breweries, wineries, and other such hometown, community, or tourism based venues seem to fit better with his age and the subsequent maturity level of his music.
